About Our School
Sanctuary Point Public School was opened in 1976 and has grown since then to become an integral part of the Sanctuary Point community. It is located within the Bay and Basin area of the Shoalhaven City local government area. The school is the largest partner school of Vincentia High School and is part of the Bay and Basin Community of Schools.
The local area is a particularly beautiful environment with St Georges Basin on one side providing safe boating, excellent fishing and safe swimming areas. Nearby is the world famous Jervis Bay with its unique environment and large area of semi enclosed waters surrounded by national parks. The towns of Huskisson, Vincentia and Hyams Beach border Jervis Bay.
Tourism is a significant industry in the local area, employing large numbers of local people. Many other families associated with the school are employed in Nowra (30 km) or beyond. A number of families have defence force personnel as breadwinners.
The school currently has approximately 450 students in attendance.
Students enter at age 5 to Kindergarten and graduate in Year 6 at age 11 or 12.
The school has approximately 60 Aboriginal students in attendance.
Education highlights include: Highly experienced and dedicated staff, specialist computer education and music programs (K-6), support classes for students with special needs, support for students with literacy/numeracy needs, extension classes for students with specific talents, a wide range of sporting opportunities.
The school also offers band and choir, instrumental tuition and dance instruction.
